Simply Baby Photography by Kimberly Fain | Maternity, Newborn & Baby Photographer | Dallas-Ft. Worth, Texas

Where is your photography business located?
We are located in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex. Our main location is located in Joshua, Tx and our newest location will be open on Febuary 1st in Burleson.

How long have you been a photographer?
7 years :)

Why did you become a photographer?
Well I literally had no intentions of doing this. My husband bought me a nice camera for my birthday in 2012 just to take good pictures of my grandkids. A few months later I saw that a well known photographer lost her host home in Dallas for a newborn workshop and I answered her request for someone to host. And she chose me. I definitely had no intentions of ever shooting babies so I just sat back and watched. Once I saw the little tips and tricks, I jumped in with both feet on the ground. I quit my sales career in the medical field of 23 years and in 2015 I started charging and opened my own studio.

What's your favorite type of photography?  Babies?  Maternity?  Family?  And why?
Babies, babies, and more babies! Why??? They can't run away or talk back to me! They do as I want - LOL. And if they are having a rough day, I just sent back and wait it out. They'll eventually give up and I'll be the winner.

What's your favorite thing about your job?
Seeing a mommy cry at her IPS when she sees her video. They are always in AWE.

What advice do you have for parents trying to find a photographer?
Please please do your homework. Make sure you are using someone with lots of experience who invest in themselves. Baby safety should be their very first priority.

What advice do you have for people who want to start their own photography business?
Learn your camera and try not to fake it until you make it! Invest in yourself and learn as much as you can! Know your worth and run it as a business that will pay your bills. Charge accordingly or you will burn yourself out!!! One huge tip - buy right or buy twice in the prop world. Don't purchase crap!

Tell me three non-photography related things about you.
I'm a Mimi to three beautiful grandbabies and one on the way. My oldest is fixing to be 16 :( I've been married for 18 years to the most amazing man ever. He is my biggest supporter. And my dogs rule the roost at my house. We don't go on vacation because we can't leave them behind!

Digital Memories by Debbie Koehler | Maternity, Newborn & Family Photographer | Richmond, Virginia

How long have you been a photographer?  over 12 years

Why did you become a photographer?  When I was younger my family lost all of their pictures.  All my childhood photos were gone.  This inspired me to pick up a camera during my teenage years and capture every moment that I could.  After having my own kids I was inspired to not only photograph my beautiful children but capture beautiful moments for other families.

What's your favorite type of photography?  Babies?  Maternity?  Family?  And why?  Newborns...I just LOVE capturing families' first portraits.

What's your favorite thing about your job?  Meeting so many amazing families and capturing precious memories for them.

What advice do you have for parents trying to find a photographer?  Definitely look at their portfolios and see if their style matches what you are looking for.

What advice do you have for people who want to start their own photography business?   The biggest thing I recommend is making sure you get everything set up legally.  Business license, insurance, contracts, and etc.

Tell me three non-photography related things about you.  Working out is my stress relief.  I love obstacle course racing.  Being outdoors is my happy place.

Laura Peterson Photography | Birth, Newborn, & Family Photographer | Grand Island, Nebraska

How long have you been a newborn photographer?
Officially since 2009

Why did you become a baby & maternity photographer?
A friend asked me to photograph her birth and that look on the parent's face when saw that baby girl for the first time brought tears to my eyes and I was hooked. I knew in that moment that not only did I want to be a photographer, but I wanted to specialize in labor and delivery and newborn. And btw I still cried at every birth I've photographed.

What's your favorite type of photography?  Babies?  Maternity?  Family?  And why?
Babies!! With labor and delivery, that moment only happens once. Even if you've had 6 kids, that baby's birth is always going to be unique and special. Newborns are only that little for a matter of weeks, so it is so very important that that time gets captured and treasured.

What's your favorite thing about your job?
All the baby snuggles is defiantly a perk! But I think my favorite thing about this job is delivering the finished galleries and hearing the feedback from my clients. I love them all so much and I feel like a friendship forms throughout the whole experience.

What advice do you have for parents trying to find a photographer?
Do your research and read reviews. Make sure they are trained properly to be able to handle your baby correctly and safely. And make sure the photographer is someone you are comfortable with from the very start. It's so important to feel comfortable and safe before, during and after the session.

What advice do you have for people who want to start their own photography business?
Have fun with it! Be yourself and don't try to copy someone else's style or look. Find what you love to photograph and go with it! Love what you do so it never feels like a "job." Also, if you're wanting to specialize in newborn, please take classes and training so you learn to properly care for and handle that little precious life in your hands.

Tell me three non-photography related things about you.
1) My dream is to see whales in the wild. I cry just watching them on TV. (lame I know....)
2) I have been married for 12 years and have two girls, one dog and a cat.
3) I don't like sushi or Starbucks coffee..... (I'll expect hate mail for that last one...)

Angela Beransky | Newborn and Maternity Photographer | San Diego, CA

Why did I become a photographer?
Photography intrigued me since childhood, and after I took photography classes in a photography school I absolutely fell in love.

Favorite type of photography?
Babies! I tried weddings, engagements, food photography, product photography, maternity, family but nothing satisfies my soul as babies.

Favorite thing about your job as a photographer?
My favorite thing about my job is creating baby portraits that every mom and dad adore. Seeing them emotional during the reveal is just priceless. It really amazing to feel that you are creating something meaningful to cherish for many years.

What advice do you have for parents trying to find a photographer?
Not all photography niches are the same. Newborn photography is a very special niche that requires a lot of practice, experience, training and a special love for babies. Make sure your photographer specializes in babies and trained in baby safety.

What advice do you have for people who want to start their own photography business?
If someone wants to specialize in babies I would suggest taking a workshop, invest in education first. Create a website and google listing as soon as possible. It takes time for Google to take you seriously so while you are learning and building a portfolio your website will "grow" its rank in google as well.

What else can you tell me about yourself?
1. I enjoy cooking and explore different cousins. 2. the most extraordinary experience in my life was a trip to India. 3. I have 4 little kids and they keep my hands busy and heart full!

How long have you worked in a photography?
Coming up on 9 years this year!

Why did you become a photographer?
I started out just wanting to have better photos of my kids. Once I started sharing my kids' pictures, I had people ask me to do photoshoots for their kids. My cousin asked me to take photos of her newborn. While those first images were terrible and I did not have a clue what I was doing, I was instantly in love with the genre! I wanted to learn all I could. I dove headfirst into online learning. I took some photography workshops in person too. I wanted to master the craft. I LOVE my job and what it has been able to do for my own family's circumstances!

What's your favorite type of photography?
I love newborn photography. I love to mold those babies into the cutest poses and to design beautiful imagery that focuses on their sweet little forms.

What's your favorite thing about your job?
Photoshop....creating art. I have always loved art, it's been a part of my life in many forms. Any platform that allows creativity and an artistic outlet is my happy place.

What advice do you have for parents trying to find a photographer?
I was going to say find someone seasoned, but I will change my mind and simply say you get what you pay for. There are many photographers starting out that will be willing to do photo shoots for less, but if you want art and not just photos find someone seasoned who has put in the work. Also with newborn photography, definitely someone that is safety trained.

What advice do you have for people who want to start their own photography business?
Be ready to put in the time to learn. Practice, practice, practice. Be patient with yourself, it's a huge endeavor that is absolutely worth every minute of learning! Enjoy the journey.

Tell me three non-photography related things about you.
I LOVE to workout! (I equally love food, so to look at me you'd never know I'm a workout junkie) I love all things adventure. I am not a sit on the beach kinda gal, if I'm going to vacation, you better believe I'll find the most extreme adventure the location has to offer. I come from a family of 8 kids and I have 4 of my own. Family is everything to me!

What is the name of your photography business?
Lindsay Walden Photography

How did you get into newborn photography?
A friend asked if she could do newborn photos of my daughter. She had never done them before and was just learning. I had no idea what she was even talking about as newborn photography was relatively new and not very common but I agreed to it. While my friend was definitely a beginner I still treasure those images. I wanted to learn more and that began my interest in newborn photography.

What's the best thing about being a newborn photographer?
Baby cuddles. Seriously the best part of the job.

How long have you been teaching newborn photography?
About five years in an official capacity but I have always loved teaching and helping others so have been helping photographers from around the world for many years.

Do you teach newborn photography workshops?
I offer limited workshops. My primary focus is on serving my clients and running a busy luxury studio.

I offer limited one-on-one mentoring sessions. My primary focus is on serving my clients but I will take a couple students each month.

Do you offer online newborn photography coaching?
I have a few classes online. Most popular is my course Pricing and Branding for the Luxury Market.

What specific skills do you teach to your newborn photographer students?
My primary focus as an educator in the industry has been to teach the business side of photography. I am passionate about helping photographers achieve their financial goals. As a luxury brand I am able to average between $5-6,000 per client with multiple five figure sales every year. I love helping other photographers create branding and pricing that will allow them to reach this type of client.

I always had a passion for it. I remember when I was very young filming barbie doll movies with my dad’s camera.

Newborns and Sitter babies. I absolutely love this age in their life, it goes by so quickly that for me it is a true privilege to capture these moments. And, one of my favorite things is how creative I can get using little props, wraps and outfits.

What's your favorite thing about your job as a newborn photographer?
Every time after a session I download the photos to my computer and edit a few sneak peeks! I get so excited to see the end result so I guess EVERYTHING!

What advice do you have for parents trying to find a baby photographer?
My best advice would be to find someone who would treat their new baby as their own. It is so important for baby to be safe and comfortable.

What advice do you have for people who want to start their own newborn photography business?
Research and get educated! It makes such a big difference. There are so many options for learning now that were not available before, take advantage of that. When learning from another photographer, make sure to check them out first and their reputation, how much experience they have and so on.

Tell me three non-photography related things about you.
